In 1961, on Christmas Day, Officer Johnny Wright and his partner were dispatched to one of the poorer parts of town on a domestic disorder call. When they arrived on the scene, they were confronted with drunken parents fighting while their two children watched. It was the decision of the officers, that if at all possible they were not going to jail.
100% of The Forgotten Child Fund is made up of volunteers. We consist of Chattanooga Firefighters, Hamilton County EMS employees, Hamilton County Sheriff employees and other volunteer organizations. 100% of all funds donated go directly to our goal of no child will be forgotten on Christmas Day.
In addition to delivering Christmas to 10 needy families on Christmas Eve in Hamilton County, we distribute thousands of coats, toboggans, and gloves with our Coats for Kids programs.
The Santa Train is 3 to 4 miles of first responders in firetrucks, police cars, and other first responder vehicles. The train takes off from Chattanooga State Community College on Christmas Eve. It winds its way through the city on its mission to bring toys to 10 of Chattanooga's neediest families. The caravan of vehicles will have red and blue lights flashing, sirens wailing, horns tooting, and Christmas carols played over loud speakers, with Santa in one of the vehicles waving at people on the street.
